Dear Friend,
Several local and national prophetic voices have been warning the Body of major natural disasters for California that will occur much sooner than many may think. The Lord has been shouting to His people to wake up them from their slumber. On Sunday, May 25th, 2008, four prophets from the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, MO, showed up in San Jose, CA with a strong word from the Lord. The Lord had been speaking to them for several years about a catastrophe coming to California. The Lord has recently released them, telling them to go preach in San Jose. Crisis Response International: Several years ago, God called these four prophets with a special mission to enter into regions before major catastrophes to prepare the church and provide disaster relief. Six months before 9/11 hit, the Lord sent Sean Malone, one of the prophets, to cry out everyday for Manhattan. He was there when 9/11 happened, and a team of them worked with the local church afterwards to provide relief. Five days before Hurricane Katrina hit, the Lord sent Sean and his family to New Orleans. Again, they were used of the Lord to minister to victims in the aftermath. In one instance they were serving food at a soup kitchen, asking people, So why do you think this happened?
Over and over again, the response was, God did this. We deserved it, and I repent. Hearts everywhere were tender and open to the gospel. The disaster had produced a huge harvest field. One Monday morning in New Orleans, while they were ministering to the victims, a fiery baptism of the Holy Spirit broke out. Demons were being cast out and people were being healed. Prostitutes were hearing the audible voice of the Lord leading them block by block to the crisis center, and telling them to enter the building where the team was ministering. The Lord was pouring out His Holy Spirit in the midst of crisis.
Three Disasters: The Lord showed this team that there would be three disasters to hit America. After the first one, the church would roll over and go back to sleep. After the second one, some of the church would wake up, but most would hit the snooze button and fall back asleep. By the third one, the crisis would be significant enough that the church would wake up for good. They believe that these three events refer to 9/11, Katrina, and now what will come to California.
Tsunami: Prophets have been speaking for many years about a tsunami that would hit the coast of California. Some have spoken about San Francisco being under water, others about huge tidal waves coming toward the coast. Sean had a dream in which he was on a beach he later would identify as Half Moon Bay. In this dream, he saw the waters on the beach recede far out into the ocean. Knowing this was bad news, he began to run toward the hills, tied himself to a wooden post, and water rushed over him up to his neck.
Earthquake: In April of 2008, CRI received an email from Bob Jones's secretary who said that he had just walked into her office and said, Big earthquake, California, sooner than we think. Not much has to be said to convince that the big one is coming to California.
Jeremiah 11:1-11 "The Broken Covenant" The CRI team from Kansas City received repeated occurrences of the number 11-11, or 111. For example, they would show up to a hotel and get Room 111. They would throw their change onto the dresser and it would be 11 cents in one pocket and 11 cents in another. Sean would lay down and open up a book to Jeremiah 11:11. He would get ready to speak to a man named Jeremiah about California, when a friend would come up to him and say, 11:11, referring to the time it was at the moment. This and many other confirmations showed that the Lord was speaking about Jeremiah 11:1-11, which is a passage about the broken covenant of Israel.
It talks about how God's people turned their back on him to serve other idols and go after other gods. Therefore this is what the LORD says: 'I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them (Jeremiah 11:11).
Then the Lord told Sean to go back and look at the Mayflower Compact, signed by the forefathers of America. It says that We hereby covenant ourselves to Almighty God. This nation is formed for the perpetuation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. (paraphrased). It was signed on November 11th, or 11/11. America made
A covenant with God when it was formed, but has Strayed.
Pony Express: Prophetic Messengers Coming to California and then the Lord started to speak about the Pony Express. For years, Sean had a post card with an advertisement for the Pony Express: Looking for young, 18 -25 year old riders for the Pony Express. Turns out, Rod, one of these four from KC, is a former postmaster in Missouri. One day as they are on the road, the presence of God fills the car and Rod gets a manifestation as if he were grunting like a horse. Just then as they turn a bend on the road, they drive past a truck full of horses with the Pony Express logo on the side. The Pony Express, as it turns out, was a mail service that ran from Missouri to Sacramento, with the trip taking 11 days, both ways.
Before a disaster, the Lord would always send messengers with a warning for the people to repent. He sent Jonah to Nineveh to preach repentance. There needed to be widespread revelation in the land in order for the people to respond correctly. CRI believes that God wants to rise up prophetic messengers with a message in their hearts for California. Currently they are training 44 young preachers in Missouri to come to California and proclaim the word of the Lord. There will be four bus loads of fiery preachers camping out on a mobile 24/7 prayer tent interceding and preaching all over the Bay Area. Lou Engle intends to bring 100+ young people as well from The Call to California to do the same thing.
Bob Jones's Prophecies: On Saturday, May 24th, 2008, Bob Jones released a prophecy about California, saying that the bowls of iniquity have been filled up, and no amount of prayer can hold back judgment. He also had prophesied that there would be a few other indicators that the catastrophe was soon to come, there would be a great quake in Japan first, followed by a great quake in California. When you see the evangelists leave the streets, then get ready San Francisco. The CRI team from Kansas City believes that these evangelists refer to the 44 young messengers the Lord is sending from Missouri to California to declare the word of the Lord and prepare the people.

REUTERS - A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 rocked rural northern Japan on Saturday, killing at least three people, injuring more than 100 and sending landslides sweeping down mountainous hillsides.
Following are some facts about Japan and earthquakes.
* Japan, situated on the "Ring of Fire" arc of volcanoes and oceanic trenches that partly encircles the Pacific Basin, accounts for about 20 percent of the world's earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater.
* A tremor occurs in Japan at least every five minutes, and each year there are up to 2,000 quakes that can be felt by people.
* The Great Kanto earthquake of Sept. 1, 1923, which had a magnitude of 7.9, killed more than 140,000 people in the Tokyo area. Seismologists have said another such quake could strike the city at any time.
* On Jan. 16, 1995, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 hit central Japan, devastating the western port city of Kobe. It was the worst earthquake to hit Japan in 50 years, killing more than 6,400 and causing an estimated $100 billion in damage.
* On Oct. 23, 2004, a 6.8 magnitude quake struck the Niigata region, about 250 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo, killing 65 people and injuring 3,000.
* On March 25, 2007, a 6.9 magnitude quake struck the Noto peninsula in Ishikawa prefecture, about 300 km west of Tokyo, killing one person, injuring more than 200 and destroying hundreds of homes.
* On July 16, 2007, a 6.8 magnitude quake struck Niigata prefecture, about 250 km (150 miles) northwest of Tokyo, killing 11 people and injuring 1,950. The tremor caused radiation leaks at the world's largest nuclear plant, which officials said were within safety regulations and posed no threat to the environment. The leaks nonetheless reignited fears about nuclear safety in the quake-prone country. [T4387]
Protection for the Righteous: The Lord also spoke to the team about Psalm 91:3. For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. In one meeting, feathers started to rain from the ceiling, followed by a random phone call from a friend who said, Psalm 91:3.
Shortly after, a license plate they ordered showed up in the mail, with a picture of the Louisiana State bird on it, and the numbers 913 on it. This passage says that there is protection and deliverance for the ones who abide in Him. We must not be panicked, but trust in the Lord. God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but of power, love, and a sound-mind. Even in a crisis, He is sovereign and in control.
God's Heart in Judging a Nation: In the midst of tragedy, it is important to understand God's heart in bringing judgment upon a nation. It is not solely to punish people for being bad. He is not a big bad angry God who delights in the suffering of His people. He does everything in the name of love. He disciplines those He loves. He allows the least amount of evil to produce the greatest amount of good. Scriptures shows that the Lord often delivered the wayward Israelites into the hands of their enemies in order to bring them back to a covenant relationship with Him.
The Coming Revival: History has shown that there is no greater harvest field than the one that is borne out of the vacuum of crisis. This is a great opportunity for the church to rise up and prepare an army to minister and serve.
Three Ways to Respond: How is the Holy Spirit telling you to respond?
Here are three suggestions:
1. Be Praying for His people to have rest and intimacy with the Lord, staying rooted and grounded in love.
For the body of Christ to be awakened and arise out of its slumber.
For the Lord of the Harvest to send out his laborers to minister and become the hands and feet of Jesus.
For an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and for a great harvest to come in.
2. Be Sharing the Word: Ezekiel 3:16-21 says that if a person has a word from the Lord and they have the opportunity to turn a wicked man from his ways, but doesn't, then the blood of this wicked person is on his hands. Since we have heard the word of the Lord, we have a responsibility to share it with people so that they have a chance to repent. There is still time for people to hear the gospel of Christ before disaster.
3. Be Ready to Serve: Did you know that showing up to volunteer at a disaster in America is a bad idea? You must be pre-trained to be useful; otherwise, you will be turned away. Red Cross disaster training is free. There are Eight Basic Disaster Courses. Allen Hood's Dream: In December of 2007, Allen Hood from IHOP-KC had a dream in which he stood before the Lord, praying and interceding for revival in America. Just then, the Lord boomed, But Allen! What about the drunkenness of California?
Just then, Allen began to cry out for mercy for California. And then he saw before him a scale, with judgment on one side and mercy on the other. The needle was pointed toward judgment, but as he prayed it shifted toward mercy, and when it came to the middle, the dream stopped. When Allen shared this at The Call in Kansas City, the Lord shifted the focus of the meeting and they spent hours crying out for California.
Bob Hartley's Prophecy: George W. Bush would have an opportunity to show great mercy to California before he leaves office.
Julie Meyer's Dream for San Francisco: I was standing right at the edge of the sea again and could see a great shaking. A great shaking will come right down the middle of San Francisco. It will be a city split in two, covered by the mouth of the sea. Therefore God will stir the prophets of the nations to cry out again, Let the wicked turn to God and let the righteous man flee San Francisco for it is a city that will be split right down the middle. In proverbs, it is saying that if we forbear, and are very patient, then by this character, and soft speech, that it breaks down the most obstinate hearts.
Longsuffering is not something I’ve seen a whole lot of in the church. I’ve seen it in my surrogate “mom” more than anyone I know in the world so far. I’ve seen it in many unlikely friends. I see it in Chinese converts more than the Americans I know.
To forbear means that even if you feel like saying something nasty, or don’t feel like putting up with something because it is so annoying, you do it anyhow.
JUST as GOD tolerates our unfaithfulness and sinning again and again, because sanctification is PROCESS, that we also are urged to do the same with others. I haven’t seen that being taught in church much. I see intolerance and impatience more than that.
But GOD’s love forbears with the faults of others. You know yourself that there are secret sins we all have, and desire to be rid of. There are weaknesses in our character, and sometimes I feel HE allows some of that just to test the rest of the church, or to help us stay humble. But over and over it is clear that we are to be more loving and patient with each other than what we are now.
The world knows most American ministers as intolerant, selfish, greedy, insensitive to their needs and prideful beyond anything their culture is usually familiar with and it’s left a sour taste in many a mouth. I want my words to be apples of gold in settings of silver, like the bible says. But too often I fail. I don’t fail as much as I used to, which is good. But I’m not where I want to be. Lately I have seen many prophetic people who have a big huge grudge on their shoulders for all the persecution and pain they have been through. I know I’ve gone through the shredding also. And I’ve had to repent over and over for anything I’ve held against anyone who ever cursed me, or underestimated me, or misunderstood me. The whole process of dying to self is painful. The Lord knows that. He sent His Son on this earth to experience what we go through, and to show a more excellent way of living and being.
I pray He will send his fire into my heart and soul to consume everything that stands in the way of my ability to be more like HIM. I pray He will do that for all of us.
Rom 2:4 AMP says
4 Or are you [so blind as to] trifle with and presume upon and despise and underestimate the wealth of His kindness and forbearance and long-suffering patience? Are you unmindful or actually ignorant [of the fact] that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repent (e to change your mind and inner man to accept God's will)?
See He is kind, and is long-suffering and patient towards us. He is the kindest person I know. He once told me, “I never get tired of you!” I just broke when He said this, as I’d grown up feeling everyone got tired of me. HE NEVER GETS TIRED of YOU. We have a hard time believing that, and a religious spirit will try to convince you that He’s had enough of your mistakes, enough of your weaknesses. A religious spirit is a harsh taskmaster like those of the Jews in the land of Egypt. It is never satisfied with what you do, or who you are. When I was watching the movie of JOSEPH once, I was struck with this when in the movie, the person in charge of the slaves, was commanding Joseph to carry this huge jug for water down to the river to fill it. He kept hurrying him, as though he wasn’t fast enough.
Then as he went he purposely tripped him and Joseph fell in the sandy mud, then, on top of it, the harsh taskmaster, whipped on him and ridiculed him for falling. It is a really great picture of how the enemy treats us. He trips you up with his lies and deceit, planting thoughts in your mind, then turns around and accuses YOU, when it is he who put them there. He accuses you before God, and God to you. Either you aren’t good enough, or God just won’t put up with you. You can’t pray enough, you can’t read enough, you can’t fast enough, you can’t do anything right enough for him.
You’re too fat, you’re too thin, you’re too slow or you’re too fast. You’re too merciful or not merciful enough. One thing Satan will not do, is urge you to spend more time with Jesus. HA! He doesn’t want you being intimate with Holy Spirit, because then you might actually get more healing, or recognize the lies he’s been feeding you. You might hear from God. The glory may come down as you worship, and rest, and then what? God may actually talk to you, and love on you, and you may get HAPPY, you may get JOYFUL, and it would ruin his plan for you. It is good to forbear with the LORD and to spend time with HIM. It is NEVER a waste of time. For in that time, He can come and touch you. You can be changed and transformed.
Rom 3:25-26 NKJV
25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
HOW AWESOME IS GOD that He was so forbearing to take away all our sins, and to justify us before HIM. He wanted us to be blameless when we stand before Him in the end. So Jesus came and accomplished what no other sacrifice could do.
He made us blameless in the sight of God, that when HE looks at us, He sees us through the blood of Jesus. HE doesn’t see you. He doesn’t see others like we see ourselves or see others who are saved. He sees their whole life, knows everything that ever happened to them, knows every prayer, all the shame and sin they’ve been through and still loves them, and us. THAT is why Jesus told us to LOVE ONE ANOTHER as HE has loved us and cared for us! That is a life time task to achieve. But HE will continue to help us, sanctifying us with His glory till we become like Him.

Heb 5:1-2 Amp 1 FOR EVERY high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in things relating to God, to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 He is able to exercise gentleness and forbearance toward the ignorant and erring, since he himself also is liable to moral weakness and physical infirmity.
See that! The problem is our pride. We are so prideful sometimes, we get impatient and intolerant with the weaknesses of others, with the limitations of others. Isn’t that why so many of us just don’t want to help others sometimes? Sometimes it’s because we know we lack the patience to do so. Some people just don’t care. But others are afraid of failing to represent the Lord well, or are even afraid of that so dysfunctional person. Also our personalities are such that God doesn’t make us do what HE knows would be too much for us. He knows our frailties. He knows our weaknesses.
He continually is perfecting us, and as we are ready, He may bring more challenges so we learn how to deal with them. I know that when I first came into the church, they had no idea how to minister to someone like myself who was so abused.
I sought for years the Lord on this issue and had to take other routes to get help sometimes, because there just wasn’t the help in the church. Our society is also way too busy and performance & entertainment oriented to make for time for us to actually help others many times. I am so grateful that GOD doesn’t get tired of me. I’m so grateful that He understands me perfectly, and that HE is not a harsh taskmaster. HE is not DRIVING me to success in the way the world does. He’s not standing over me with a whip to urge me to strive. His ways are so opposite to the ways of the world, and that is part of our problem too in the church. Too much of the world has gotten into the harlot church of this hour.
We are living in end times, so we see a much divided church, many of whom are heading full on towards the acceptance of any sin, and to accept the all world religions - new world order church. She is the HARLOT riding the beast and she will persecute us who follow the LAMB. So we cannot forbear with that. We cannot forbear with the perversion that reigns in her. We are to COME OUT OF HER, and follow the NARROW PATH of HOLINESS. For without that, no one will see God. So this makes our path all the more treacherous from many who’ve walked before, and we need the discernment of the LORD more than ever.
More time with the LAMB + more time in the WORD & walking in it = discernment.
God bless us all to learn to forbear in all things that are holy, and to be patient as He is with ourselves and with others. God bless us to see what HE sees in others, and to see what HE sees in us. May the harsh taskmaster’s reign over our lives be broken, in the name and blood of Jesus! AMEN!

“Just as rock rubs against rock and causes fire and abrasion, I am allowing those circumstances in your lives to rub against the strongholds of the enemy in your souls.
Many of you have only healed superficially from life-long painful memories, and have strongholds of the enemy still on your soul, because the church has not healed, or you have not YIELDED to the work. So now I am upgrading the rubbing. Just like a diamond is chiseled to make a beautiful form, I am chiseling at the rough edges in your personality and rubbing against all that would HINDER you from moving in the fullness of what I want for you.
My heart is NEVER to destroy, but to upbraid, to move you from where you are to a higher level of functioning. Some of you are getting frustrated, and it’s because I am dealing with THAT stronghold in your life! Frustration is not a fruit of the Spirit believe it or not! It is fruit of perfectionism and performance. Just as impatience and intolerance are. So I am tap, tap, tapping on the things that trigger a reaction in you to point out the need for MORE FRUIT in your life.
I am frustrating the enemy also in doing this. I want you FREE to be who I made you to be. I WANT you to receive the fullness of MY LOVE FOR YOU. This only comes through revelation and experience of that love. I AM pouring out MANIFEST LOVE that leads to repentance. It doesn’t always take a walking stick to beat someone into repentance. I caused people to repent by healing and delivering them! How many times in My Word do you see me healing, and loving people by delivering them. Remember the man who came to Me and his son was throwing himself into the fire, and he was having seizures. Did I stop and preach for him to repent? Or did I DELIVER his son? He was desperate.
The desperate soul is very responsive to LOVE. The hardened soul on the other hand may need to be beaten with TRUTH or circumstance to lead him to repent. But either way it only comes by the POWER & GRACE of MY HOLY SPIRIT. I ALONE KNOW WHAT IT TAKES FOR THAT PERSON TO REPENT. SO ASK ME WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO PRAY!
ACTS OF LOVE CAUSE PEOPLE TO REPENT. SO STOP YOUR RELIGIOUS BRAYING BEFORE I COME AND UPBRAID THAT WHICH IS IN YOU THAT CRITICIZES AND ACCUSES YOUR BROTHER OR SISTER! I am not telling you to NOT tell the truth in love. It is loving to tell people the TRUTH when they are caught in delusion. A good FATHER also corrects his children. The person who is resistant to receiving the truth is likely carrying a spirit of rejection. They feel condemned and are oversensitive when they hear the TRUTH, and then resist your words. That is not your fault. It is their issue when they cannot receive godly correction. Too many are worrying and carrying condemnation because of the error of being “politically correct” or because they are caught in the web of unsanctified mercy, trying to be everything to everyone.
I tell you not one word is spoken which I have not ordained somehow to either test the heart or mind, or to cause strength to build against injustice. BELOVEDS I CAME TO DEMONSTRATE THE LOVE OF MY FATHER. MY FATHER IS FORBEARING TOWARDS MANKIND. MY FATHER IS PATIENT AND KIND, EVEN TO THOSE UNDESERVING OF HIS MERCY & GRACE. SO YOU ALSO NEED TO BE PATIENT TOWARDS EACH OTHER TO HEAL AND GET DELIVERANCE, SO THAT YOU MAY MATURE INTO THE PERSON I HAVE DESIGNED YOU TO BE. EVERYONE GETS TIRED OF FORBEARING BECAUSE YOU ARE HUMAN. BUT I NEVER GET TIRED. I GIVE MUCH GRACE TO THOSE WHO ARE IGNORANT AND I KNOW WHAT IS IN THE HEART OF A MAN, TO KNOW HOW TO REACH HIM, OR HER.
Do NOT grow weary in doing good beloveds. The war has only begun. The fighting will get more fierce. CLING TO ME for you cannot survive without My love, joy, peace, and grace in the days ahead. PRAY for one another that you all maybe HEALED and DELIVERED. When you see the pain or wrong spirit in the life of another, then PRAY for them as if imprisoned in their world. Yes, I said imprisoned. For if anyone is under the influence of the enemy, they are in a prison. Pray in FAITH, and the prayer of FAITH will save many a soul.
In this hour, I am bringing an UPBRAIDING to those who have RESISTED My Most Holy Spirit’s wooing to healing and deliverance. I will RESIST those who resist ME.
I will scold those who have been rebellious. But do NOT assume that My upbraiding is something I GLOAT over! For it gives me no pleasure to have to scold My children or spank them, and bring hard correction to them. Just as it is hard in the natural for a parent, it is not without emotion that I have to correct My children!
Humble yourselves before ME, and I will lift you up!
KNOW that MY LOVE is not cut off from those who REPENT from their ways and wish to change, no matter what sin they committed or how long they sinned. IF they are truly repentant, I will forgive. Watch that you do not gloat over the corrections that come. But align yourself with MY HEART, and PRAY. For the MIGHTY FEAR OF THE LORD will enter My house again. I will have a HOLY and SPOTLESS BRIDE!
FOR I AM LOVE, and MY LOVE for you endures FOREVER! It is from everlasting to EVERLASTING! It does not give me any pleasure to have to send a soul to hell. Do not judge what you do not KNOW. I LOVE YOU BELOVEDS, and you must learn to love as I LOVE. "

The Scripture that God gave me for this topic was
Luke 11:33-36 NKJV "No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light. 34 The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. 35 Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. 36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light."
Obviously from this the Lord is indicating to believers, that a PART can be dark. I saw the most demonic manifestations in my life when I went to a healing conferance at the Vineyard where some big names like Francis McNutt and others were speaking on healing and deliverance. When Francis would sing in tongues, demons would manifest like crazy. When Rich Buhler had us repeat scriptures, I could feel demons leaving my body, and saw many others manifesting demons. The woman in front of me who was asian suddenly arched back and was hissing and growling. All were believers at this conferance, and most were spirit filled believers.
I've noted that some though they should know where I stand by now, seem to think they are free without sin or demonic strongholds. I have yet to see anyone free completely with maybe a few exceptions. The church is full of demons of control, gossip, slander, pride and arrogance, and selfish ambition, greed, jealousy etc. One such exception was a guy named Wally who used to come to give people hugs at our home group, and EVERYONE wanted a hug from Wally as he was SO like Jesus. Can A Christian Have A Demon?
Paul's "thorn in the flesh" has often been a topic of discussion among Christians for many generations. But hardly any would even consider the possibility that the greatest of the apostles and one of the greatest saints who has ever lived had a demon that he referred to as a "thorn." Most Christians do not believe it is possible for a Christian to have a demon. Their reasoning is that the Holy Spirit who indwells all born-again Christians could not dwell in the same place as an unholy demonic spirit. But what they don't realize is that a Christian is a triune being consisting of body, soul, and spirit.
One or more demons can inhabit the realm of the body (flesh) or the realm of the soul, but not the realm of the spirit where the Holy Spirit is. I will prove from the Scriptures that indeed the apostle Paul had a demon.
Paul wrote, "Lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger [aggelos, angel] of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure" (2 Cor. 12:7). The Greek word, aggelos, is translated "angel" or "angels" more than 160 times in the New Testament of the KJV, the NASB, and the NIV. "An angel of Satan, that is, an unholy angel or demon, was sent by God to inhabit Paul's flesh (body) to buffet him, otherwise Paul would have become very proud of the knowledge of spiritual truths that the Lord had given to him.
All the angels worshipped the Lord Jesus until one-third of them rebelled and followed Lucifer (Satan) when he fell. The unholy angels are demonic spirits who are forever working against us as archenemies of our souls. But Paul was given this demon in his flesh (body) to work for his good (Rom. 8:28). Virtually all demons in the body cause physical afflictions or infirmities. (This is not to say that all physical afflictions are caused by demons.)
Paul wrote, "For this thing [the aggelos] I besought the Lord thrice, that it [the aggelos] might depart from me" (2 Cor. 12:8). But Jesus told him that His grace was sufficient, that His strength was made perfect in weakness. Paul then wrote that "most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me" (2 Cor. 12:9).
So, what was the infirmity manifested by the unholy angel (demon) inhabiting Paul's flesh? It was Paul's eyesight. The apostle wrote to the Christians in Galatia that the trial which was in his flesh was not despised nor rejected by them, but that if it had been possible, they would have plucked out their own eyes to give to him (Gal. 4:14-15). In the same epistle the apostle wrote in his concluding remarks, "See what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand" (Gal. 6:11). Paul usually had a scribe to pen his epistles, but sometimes he would write some short portions in letters large enough that he could read what he was writing because of his poor eyesight.
Demons that inhabit the body usually manifest themselves in physical infirmities. Oftentimes the malady cannot be diagnosed by medical doctors because the cause is not a physical virus or anything else that can be detected, but rather by a spiritual, but nonetheless real, being (demon). Most of these demons can readily be cast out unless, as in Paul's case, the demon is sent by the Lord to buffet that person to keep him from being proud or for some other reason. Demons can be sent in this way if a Christian needs chastening by the Lord and that Christian does not respond properly to less severe measures by Him.
Demons can also inhabit the realm of the soul. In these cases there is usually no physical manifestation, but rather deviant or sinful behavior. Severe demonization of this sort results in such things as, for example, being "driven" to lust after women (or men) and other sins. One area in which Christians (and of course non-Christians) are particularly vulnerable to demonization is the occult. This would include consulting horoscopes, Ouija boards, fortune tellers, and so forth.
Also, voluntarily listening to many types of rock music available today and reading New Age and other occult books. Another very common means that the enemy of our souls uses to demonize people (including backsliding Christians) is pornographic literature and films. Pornographic literature would include many of the seemingly harmless department store catalogs that Christians bring into their homes. Pornographic films would include even many of the commercial advertisements that many Christians watch on television, not to mention the full-length movies that, according to God, are pornographic regardless of what the courts in this Sodom-and-Gomorrah-Babylonian United States say.
One of the greatest needs in conservative churches today is scriptural teaching about spiritual warfare. Many Christians are living in some measure of defeat because of the inability to recognize demonic influences in their lives.
It is a shame and a disgrace that so many precious Christians are being sent to psychologists and psychiatrists who don't even recognize the reality of the spiritual realm. Beloved brothers and sisters are being tormented by an enemy that is just as real as God's holy angels. And the modern remedy includes everything from sedatives and tranquilizers to electric shock treatments and confinement to mental institutions.
Also, church leaders who are inexperienced in spiritual warfare and deliverance ministry usually don't want to talk about the reality of demons. In fact, the fear of demons comes from the demons themselves. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (2 Tim. 1:7).
Much of Jesus' earthly ministry included casting out demons that resulted in healing the victims of physical and mental afflictions. And before He commissioned the Eleven at the end of His ministry, when He sent out the Twelve, part of their charge was to cast out demons (Mat. 10:1-8). And when the Seventy came back from their mission they spoke of how the demons were subject to them through Jesus' name (Lk. 10:1-17). But this authority was not just for the Twelve and the Seventy. Jesus said in Mark 16:17 that "these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils [demons]...."
Not all who have demons or who are oppressed by demons are maniacal like the Gadarene demoniac who wore no clothes and lived in tombs. Jesus delivered a "daughter of Abraham" whom Satan had bound for eighteen years. She had "a spirit of infirmity" that had her bent over and she could not straighten up (Lk. 13:11-16).
Even children can have demons. The Syrophenician mother had a "young daughter who had an unclean spirit" and besought Jesus "that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter" (Mk. 7:25-26). "And there is the account of the man whose son had a demon: "And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father" (Lk. 9:42b).
Not only did the Twelve and the Seventy cast out demons during Jesus' ministry, but later as recorded in the Book of Acts the apostles' ministry included deliverance: "There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one" (5:16). Also, Philip, who was once a deacon and later became an evangelist, ministered to the people in the city of Samaria: "For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them...." (Acts 8:7).
Unclean spirits can even speak through God's people, many times unknown to the victim. "Then Peter took him [Jesus], and began to rebuke him....But he [Jesus] turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan" (Mat. 16:22-23a).
Many times I have heard Christians quote James 4:7 saying, "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." But that is the last half of the verse. The first half says, "Submit yourselves therefore to God." Every area of our lives must be in subjection to God. If we do not totally submit to Him, then we give ground to the enemy to influence and defeat us in those areas. And often the work of demons is manifested as a result.
In these perilous last days we must realize who the real enemy is. Paul said, "...We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world...." (Eph. 6:12).
Can A CHRISTIAN have a DEMON?

When you go into the ministry of casting out demons (and you will if you follow Mark 16), you will inevitably be challenged with the question:
"Can a born-again believer have a demon?"
In charismatic and Pentecostal circles the question is: "Can a believer who is baptized in the Spirit have a demon?
Absolutely not!" is the standard answer. "The Holy Spirit cannot dwell in the same body as a demon!"
This is often spoken with the insistence of a slogan, to close the mind to further inquiry.
However, this answer cannot be supported by scripture. In fact, it is an extra-scriptural piece of logic that rests on an assumption. It is dangerous to assume that Satan and his demons have some kind of hands-off policy when it comes to believers while the truth is that believers are the very objects of their wrath and attack.
In the New Testament, the Greek word 'daimonizomai' is used to express the presence of demonic spirits within a person. What this word means is: "to be demonized; to be under the power or influence of a demon in certain areas; to have a demon."
In the King James Version of the Bible this particular Greek word is translated 11 times as "to be possessed with devils". The word "possessed," however, is a misleading translation for this Greek word. To English speaking people the term "possessed" implies total ownership of something. This concept, as pertaining to the relationship between a demonic entity and a person, has no support in the scripture or in the original intent of the Greek word. There is no suggestion in the scripture that a demon has totally taken over a person as the word "possessed" implies. Even the Gaderene demoniac had enough humanity to cry out to Jesus for help.
Rather, after close scriptural study, it can be seen that the effect of demons upon people was usually in one or more areas of the personality - not the whole person. The best translation of this Greek word is: "to be demonized" or to "have a demon."
A useful analogy would be the city of Chicago. In the 1930's Chicago had a mayor over the town, but the Mafia definitely ran parts of the town. Even so, while a believer may profess Jesus Christ as Lord of their life, it's quite possible that certain areas of the life may be under the domination and controlling influence of demonic spirits, i.e.. An area of jealousy, lust, or annoying and compulsive habits.
Because of a scriptural misunderstanding of exactly what occurred at their spiritual rebirth, many believe that they are somehow immune, or instantly free, from the strongholds, bondages and curses accumulated during a lifetime of sin.
A careful study of the New Testament will reveal that our spiritual rebirth was just that, a "spiritual" rebirth. Jesus said in the third chapter of John; "That which is born of the Spirit is spirit." It was the human spirit that received life when we confessed our sins and were born again. God told Adam that in the day he ate of the forbidden fruit he would die. Yet he went on to live for many hundreds of years. What died in Adam when he fell into sin? Obviously it was that same part of his nature that Christ came to bring back to life - his spirit.
THREE-FOLD SALVATION FOR THREE-FOLD MAN
The Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 that man is a tripartite being: spirit, soul and body. For this three-fold being (created in the image of his three-fold Creator) God has provided a three-fold salvation. When one is born again, the spirit is infused with the very life and presence of God. This burst of inner life (called justification) often serves to liberate the person from bondages in the soul and, sometimes, even sicknesses in the body. However, regeneration in the spirit does not mean complete salvation and perfection for the soul. This is evident in any believer's experience.
The second-fold of God's salvation involves the daily process of cleansing, changing, conforming and renewing the soul into the likeness of the Lord. The soul (composed of a man's mind, will and emotions) is far from perfect. It is in this realm where the habits, patterns and bondages of the past may still be found. By careful and consistent conformity to the will of God, directed from the presence of God in the human spirit, the soul is slowly transformed to become a pleasing habitation of the Lord. This process is called sanctification (or "set apart" unto holiness).
Finally, the third part of God's salvation involves the body. When Christ comes again, the scriptures tell us that we shall be changed and shall receive new bodies like unto the Lord's new body after his resurrection. This is called glorification. It is also evident, from the teachings in the New Testament, that the degree of glory expressed through our bodies then will be related to the degree of glory allowed to manifest through our souls now.
In justification (our past salvation) we were delivered from the penalty of sin (eternal separation from God). In sanctification (our present salvation) we are being delivered from the power of sin in our lives each day. In glorification (our future salvation) we shall be delivered from the very presence of sin.
The scriptures are full of pictures, analogies and parables depicting the teaching of man's tripartite being with God's provisions of salvation. When Jesus cleansed His Father's temple, full of wrath against the men that had turned a house of prayer into a den of thieves, He was revealing God's heart. We too, are the temple of God and thus need the invading presence of the holy Lord to cleanse us from the "thieves and robbers" within.
