My heart goes out to you in Australia over the prophecy struggle and your election. Our struggles here in the U.S. are about to get underway! Please receive the following comments for encouragement as well as some circumspect admonition.
Recently, this board had a good "roundtable" dialog on the core issue of our spiritual identity vis-à-vis our participation in politics. That discussion rightly extends to our prophesying about politics which is at issue now. To the degree our sense of identity as a unique kingdom people is muddied by natural allegiances and affections for the world's peoples and their heritages, our prophesying about the world's politics will reflect our own impure national prejudices rather than the Lord's true heavenly mind.
The prophetic struggle over politics reflects the deep muddiness of compromised identity that still belongs to most of us. We may be anointed to prophesy, but lacking the cross's kiss of death to our identity in national heritage, our prophesying about politics becomes antichristian prophecy on behalf of beast governments and their leaders (the spirit of Chenaniah Gordon M. recently referred to). We end up attributing spiritual qualities to human entities and their heads which they can never possess. (I would personally take issue with assigning the term "spiritual father" to any national leader as you friends have recently attributed to John Howard.)
The truth is that most of us do not have a purified enough identity in Christ alone to prophesy from an objective spiritual platform about national political issues. There is still too much of the "American" or "Australian" or "Judeo-Christian" within us to channel pure prophecy from our other-worldly kingdom. The good news however is God is using our frustration and futility over political prophecy to lead us to this higher place of sanctified identity. Once we get defeated and humiliated enough with prophesying and counter-prophesying over the "beasts of the field," we come to a place where the Lord can really get our ear in a new, holy way, if we will heed the still small voice.
All of us ascribe to the belief that the Lord's return is VERY near. If so, we should ALSO realize that His MANIFEST KINGDOM is very near to appearing.
Meanwhile, we should ALREADY know that His Kingdom is NOT OF (nor therefore aligned with) any of the present governments / political parties of this world. And if not, THEN it should be very clear that His ultimate intent is to REPLACE (not preserve) the kingdoms of this world-(see Daniel 2). In the coming administration of Christ, the world will be ruled by immortals, apostles and prophets-not by presidents, prime ministers and other beastly rulers!
This change over of administration will not occur without a worldwide struggle, of which this prophetic struggle over politics is an early sign.
The whole of this and its nearness together with our frustrations over political prophesy should be enough to get our attention and let God start reforming our prophetic wineskins. I truly believe that in the coming years, we will see a major shift in and lifting of our prophetic governmental vision toward preparation for our own roles as prophetic governmental leaders instead of trying to keep predicting the vicissitudes of human entities and preserving their failing heads. The Lord is going to lovingly force us more and more into a replacement rather than preservation paradigm-as the "days of Noah" increase in their manifestation of lawlessness and our "prophesying" fails to stop it .
The best thing we can do then is to try to help one another enter into and pass through these massive shifts toward purified heavenly perspective, so that we are not left behind as the true kingdom replacement changes for which the ages have longed fall upon us. As a team, we can do it!
Many blessings to you all,
Chris Anderson
