The Superlative Nature of God!

Superlative: surpassing all others; supreme; excessive; the utmost degree of something; an exaggerated expression of PRAISE

Reflecting on the glorious nature of our God, I am easily reminded that God's very nature and character can only be described in superlative words, for anything less would not honor Him with the glory that He truly deserves. For He alone is truly a God to be described in our days with superlative words! How easily we forget this as we often use superlative words to describe so many lesser things that we place a high value on and esteem in our lives. The world casually tosses out superlatives to describe their latest material possession such as a car or a vacation! This is just one example and there are many!

We are in the world but not of the world and our language, our very words, should reflect the superlative character of God, making a distinct contrast with the world and its focus and desire and what it describes as awesome, magnificent, and mighty! He alone is a God that is unsurpassed in beauty and excellence and glory! I am immediately reminded of a few verses from the book of Isaiah.

Isaiah 46:9-10
9 Remember the former things of old,
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like Me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things that are not yet done,
Saying,'My counsel shall stand,
And I will do all My pleasure,' NKJV

Isaiah 40:25-26

25 "To whom then will you liken Me,
Or to whom shall I be equal?" says the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high,
And see who has created these things,
Who brings out their host by number;
He calls them all by name,
By the greatness of His might
And the strength of His power;
Not one is missing. NKJV

These are powerful words spoken by God Himself, speaking forth that He is not a God to be compared and contrasted with anything or anybody.......He alone is God.........there is no other!

Isaiah 9:6-7

6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. NKJV

God defines Himself as the great I AM and in that superlative definition of Himself is encapsulated the very essence of His greatness. There is no one greater, not one mightier, more loving, more faithful and true. Everything flows from Him and to Him and through Him. In every situation the great I AM flows in the superlative nature of His character.

This is a very simple word being given but one that makes us stop and think about our spiritual perception of our God by the very words in which we describe Him. The superlative nature of His character should be described in the midst of an exaggerated expression of PRAISE as is stated above......................nothing less for He alone is worthy. Let our PRAISE ring forth with superlatives and let our PRAISE bring down anything that rises up against the knowledge of God, for He alone is worthy of all honor and all glory and all praise. Change your perception of this glorious God and you shall change your life! Let PRAISE ring forth in new songs which reflect the majesty and grandeur of the soon and coming King, Jesus Christ.

Is your God too small? Lift up your heads! Lift up your eyes for there is truly none like our God! Do not reduce Him to the depth of your current understanding but bring Him up to the highest place where He describes Himself.............

Exodus 3:14

14 And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." NKJV

Revelation 19:11-16

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:

KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Revelation 22:12-13
"And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."
NKJV

Revelation 22:16-17

16 "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star."

17 And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
NKJV

Drink deeply of the ONE who has called you and who knows you by name!
