Godliness and Holiness
Bayo Omoyiola
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory - 1Tim.3:16
What a great mystery that is. It could not be understood by mere men . Even the angels saw the apostles who preached it as spectacles. They loved to look into such a revelation and manifestation. It is indeed wonderful.
Godliness/Holiness is something God wants all of us to have. He wants us to be like him, to walk in his shoes. Holiness is being pure and clean. It is being one with your words. Not saying one thing and doing the other. Godliness is being like God. To be Godly you need to be holy so the two are more or less the same. Godliness/Holiness can be seen in different contexts and I will like to share some of them.
Holiness as an Eye salve.
Holiness is the eye salve that Jesus talked about in Rev.3:18. Without Holiness we can`t see God. Hebrew 12:14. We need to constantly wear the eye salve on our eyes so we can see God and see more of his will and purposes for our lives.
Holiness as a beautiful gate
Holiness is also a beautiful gate without which man can`t get to meet with God. In Acts 3:2. the lame man could not go to the temple and could not pass through the beautiful gate which led to the temple because he was lame. Spiritually sinners are just like the lame man. They are spiritually lame and therefore cannot see God or worship him in Spirit and in truth.
Holiness as a white raiment
Holiness is the costly white raiment Jesus mentioned in Rev.3:18. Without it Christians would be spiritually naked and they would be ashamed before God and his heavenly host.
Holiness as a price
Holiness is the price to pay in order to see God. Hebrew 12:14 says that.
Godliness as a Gain
The bible says in 1Tim 6:6 that Godliness with contentment is great gain.
Godliness as a virtue
Godliness is one of the best virtues of the Holy Spirit we Christians need to covet and walk in. It is there for us and it is readily available.
The mystery of holiness is something many Christians need to understand and its my prayer and that of many Christians that more and more people would come and live the holiness life even now that the glorious church is about to be birthed. Selah
That I May Know Him
Bayo Omoyiola
Our quest in these days should be to know God and to know him more intimately. Just like Paul who said that I may know him we Christians should desire to know more of God each day. I believe God is set and ready to reveal himself to us as we draw closer to him paying the price of seeking him in prayer and of walking in his Spirit.
One of the mysteries God would like to reveal to the body in these times is that of the Godhead. A lot of people don't know God and they get irritated on hearing that God is three in one - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The scriptures say in John 1:1 that Jesus is God and we know that even though he is the son of God he is also 100% God though he is also 100% man. The Father is accepted by all Christians to be God but not all will testify to the fact that Jesus is also God. I think it is a mystery to such people and it will continue to be one until they draw closer to the Lord. People have thought that the Father holds the same position as the Son but scriptures point to the fact that the father is greater than him though they have equal power and authority (Jesus said - All power in heaven and earth as being given to me) . Jesus calls him his father and his God and this statement of Jesus could make one wonder if Jesus is really God. The truth is that he is. Just like my human body and my human spirit are one and both bear the same name though my spirit is greater so it is with the Godhead. They are one but the father is greater than the Son. He had been from the beginning and would forever be. Joseph had the same power with the pharaoh but in seat pharaoh was greater so it is with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is considered to be less than Jesus but the bible says Jesus is the child of the Holy Spirit. What would you consider to be the meaning of this ? Anyway, the Holy Spirit is God and the truth remains that they all have equal power and authority but the Spirit always takes a humble position and he is often called the Spirit of Christ and the Spirit of the Father because he represents them even though they are always together. Wherever the Son is, the father and Spirit are present and wherever the Spirit is, the Father and the Son are present as well. The only time the 3 got separated was when Jesus carried the sins of the world. The Father and the Spirit left him because they are of a purer set of eyes than that which could behold iniquity yet they did the work of redemption together.
These statements could make someone wants to know more of God. To him it could be like what have I been taught before? This truly is the work of a revelation handed over by the Spirit of God. It could make us to wanna yearn for more of God and as we yearn and steadfastly behold his face its my prayer that we get to see the Godhead more clearly. Amen
