The Return of the Prodigals

This prophecy was first given at Birmingham Ablaze - March 4-6 1998 through Mike Buck and was shared again at Prayer for Revival, Tongues of Fire Conference March 23-25 1998.

I found myself in a huge cathedral, which represented all the churches in the Birmingham area; it was called Birmingham cathedral. At the north end, so far away it was hardly visible, was the altar where the risen Jesus stood. All down the main aisle were lots and lots of different churches screened off from each other, and each having their own altars which faced east on one side, west on the other; none faced north. The picture was in black and white and the people were like statues. Then I heard a cry coming from the north end, and as a result God's spirit went forth as a wave, bringing conviction and repentance on all God's people in each church as He worked his way down the cathedral. The effect of this wave brought colour in its wake, as the barriers were being removed between churches, and the statues came to life - being turned from their denominational altars to the living God. This process continued all the way down the cathedral.

At the south end the Holy Spirit stopped briefly to call me over to follow Him. I saw Him disappear downstairs into the crypt where it was dark, and where sad lonely people were crying. There were thousands of them under our feet and we did not know it! 'Who are they Lord?' I said. 'These are the prodigals', He said. 'The cry you heard earlier was the cry of the Father longing for the return of His prodigal sons. I came in response to that cry in order to restore them, bring them back to life, to heal their pain, lighten their darkness; but first I had to come to you to turn your stony hearts into hearts of flesh so you could welcome them home as the father would. Because on account of you, albeit in ignorance, your desire to speak the truth was not spoken in love it crushed their spirits, my grace was turned to legalism; you words, though meant for life, brought death and they were buried underneath your feet. So I come now to bring life to them, and repentance to you, that you all might become one in the Father's love'. The Holy Spirit then lifted up all the prodigals to join us.

At this point I heard another cry, it was the people of God who with one accord, cried out to the Lord to open the huge doors at the south end of the cathedral. No man could open these doors, only Jesus. These were the doors of revival. He came in response to our cry it seemed and opened the doors and commissioned all of us to feed the 100s, indeed multitudes of people who were hungry on the other side, or should I say outside the cathedral. Starting with the prodigals, God's people left the building to share the morsels of bread with the people in their homes, highways and byways. No sooner had a morsel been given, than it was replaced. It represented God's word, the bread of life, broken and poured out for us to give to the people.

I looked back after a while and saw no cathedral any more, only Jesus standing on the foundation, tears of joy filled His face. This was the Great Commission in operation. God's people now unified, one heart and mind reaching out..... 'Lord, where's the cathedral gone? Where's the structures....?' And He looked at me, piercing my heart. 'You are my Body' He said, 'you are the living stones of my temple.' At that point all I could do was fall down and worship Him.
