God does all things by his own counsel and then reveals his secrets to men as He chooses. He asks direction, opinion, and advice from no one for he created Wisdom. He describes himself as "He who was, and is, and is to come." He alone is God.
Yesterday I was at the gas pump laughing how inexpensive gas prices are. The stock market seems to be booming and we're a land at rest. All of the social and economic omens say all will be well with America. All seems beguilingly carefree. In my spirit, I suddenly felt the Lord whisper, "1929 again."
1929 was one of the greatest economic years in the history of the USA. We had plenty of wine, women and song. We were coming off the victory of a World War and American seemed invincible. And then the bottom fell out and we were plunged into a Great Depression. Most people who left the farm for the city returned to the farm because they could no longer support themselves. Desperate men plunged from skyscrapers even as the stock market plunged, and fell to their deaths even as their false god fell in single a day. The good times suddenly came to a screeching, grinding halt.
Today I hear prophets, both from the church and world, nervously declaring that the best days are still before us! So what that Asian economies have fallen. So what that nuclear Russia is in the hands of mobsters. So what that a few million people in North Korea have starved to death. So what that by 2010 over 40 million children worldwide will be orphans because of AIDS. So what? We're America the Great!
I would to God that we were called America the Humble because a broken and contrite spirit God never rejects.
God says that he will frustrate the lies of the wise men of this age but he will, "confirm the word of his servant, and perform the counsel of his messengers." Bad times for the world means good times for the kingdom of God. When there is no more disposable income to waste on $3.99 per minute psychics, when medical science cannot offer a cure for the wasting plagues that are here even now, the church of the Lord Jesus Christ will shine brightly in the darkness as both a beacon of Truth and as a refuge for the broken who seek healing.
The fools and boasters who proclaim the Greatness of America will be silenced as this land ours is laid waste and devoured by debt, invasion, and plague. We will be cast into a debtor's prison and will not leave until we can repay all. Our food reserves are diminished greatly as we have stretched ourselves past the breaking point. We have hardened our hearts as a stiff-necked rebellious nation and shall suddenly be broken. We shall snap even as a man is hung and his neck snaps under his own weight. The cords of our sin shall be our gallows.
God is bent on humbling this country before the entire world. Our pride has been a stench in the nostrils of the Most High and the measure of our sin is "pressed down, shaken together, and running over." We have reached the flashpoint of judgment.
Yet if we repent, there is still mercy even in the midst of judgment. It is never the heart of God that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. He still loves this rebellious nation and would still rule over us in righteousness. He remembers the covenants that our forefathers made with him and would gladly honor them - if we will humble ourselves, seeking first the kingdom of God, and honor him first!
One madman with a biological weapon can stop an army and starve a nation. We're like the man who stalked a mountain lion for a trophy but stepped an unseen scorpion and was mortally stung. We don't see the enemy who stalks us and sees us clearly through his sniper's scope. In many places, our nation shall become the haunt of jackals and wild animals because of mass death. The moral pollution and filth we have trafficked to the world shall come back to haunt us. We have taught the world to sing the songs of whores (thank you MTV) and we're dancing blindly right over the edge of the abyss to our own destruction. And still the party rolls on.
Jesus warned, "Fall upon the rock and be broken, or the Rock will fall upon you and shatter you to dust." Shattered men who have reaped the whirlwind of their own sin will cry out to God from the depths of their brokenness, some to curse him, and other to embrace him and his free gift everlasting life. Jesus is still appointed for the "rising and falling of many."
Don't be deceived by the omens of liars. God is coming with the scales of justice. The blood of the unborn cries out to him. Those who have been snared by our sin hate us and demand of God that he act. Seek the Lord while he may be found. He is coming to judge this nation.
