A Hatchet Job
Bryan Hupperts

I had a kind of dream about a man I once met that I felt was a very definite word of encouragement for him. After praying this over, I feel this is also for the body of Christ in general.

In my dream, I saw this person as an old cigar store wooden Indian. He was surrounded by little men all dressed in nice suits but carrying hatchets. They looked very civilized but I could sense that their nature was truly savage in the basest sense of the term.

On cue, they began to attack swinging their hatchets with great ferocity. They hacked and hacked at this wooden man. Chunks and chips of wood seemed to fly everywhere. I thought to myself: Is he going to survive this?

When the dust settled, I expected to see a mound of scrap wood and sawdust. Instead, the wooden statue had been transformed by all of those savage hatchet whacks…into the image of Jesus!

My understanding is that the "hatchet job" these people intended for evil, God intended for good. The more the blows fell, the more they transformed this person into the image of Christ. God was allowing this attack to touch this man with the intent to cut away all that was not Christ-like in his nature. What remained was a man transformed.

When the attacks come, stand on Romans 8: 28. "We know that all things work together for the good of them that love God." Sometimes it is our very love of God that singles us out for attack but Praise God! In Him we are more than overcomers. Remember His servant Job. "The Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning." Job 42: 12.

Allow the blows of adversity to do their work. If you're solidly built on the Rock, when the rains and winds pass, you'll still be there burning brightly for the glory of God.

Be blessed,
