This is a picture that has been growing within me since November, and fits in with the excellent IRN digest by Tony Black in January - The Refiners Fire.

The Picture.
The picture is of an urban landscape. It has streets, factories and tower office blocks. Everything on the surface appears to be quite normal. People are going about their daily business; working, playing, marrying.

However, beneath the surface the water is rising. The basements are filling up with water from underground streams. This water has been there for some time, but is rising quickly now; moving and washing away the mortar between the bricks, destabilizing timbers and soaking into the plasterwork which rises even up to the ground floor levels.

Then a strong wind blows; an earth tremor, not large in itself but just enough to shake the ground a little. The effect on the destabilizing structures is dramatic! The buildings just implode and collapse into the underground river; the Archimedes effect causes the river to rise up and the whole 'waste places are made low' and covered with water as in a flood.

I saw people dancing, drinking, and being completely unaware of the fact that their 'security' was sinking into the waters. They were unprepared, disbelieving and blind to the reality of the situation.

Then my attention was drawn to the vast sheet of water that now stretched as far as the eye could see. It was soaking into the ground, softening the hard earth, washing away the blockages, bringing life giving water to the seeds that had lain dormant for so long.

Interpretation.
The buildings in the picture are the religious structures, denominations, movements etc. They are also representative of the various tiers of 'authority structure' in the local church. The underground river rising and moving are those of the ordinary people who have been renewed and have shared the love of Jesus 'underground' informally, in groups, prayer meetings, email, etc., but have had to conform to the religious and legalistic norms of the traditional church service. The buildings collapsed as the result of a comparatively small tremor because the foundations of religion and legalism had been infiltrated by the river of the Spirit; and the high profile people were suddenly in the water with the nameless, faceless ones. Some of these high profile ministries will quickly repent and be part of the flood that will bring water to a thirsty world, but some will sink.

The people still partying appeared to be referring to those who have been to all the conferences; laughed, danced, rolled around on the floor for a year or three, but have demonstrated little fruit of repentance in their lives.

They seem so busy getting a 'holy fix' that they neither see nor heed the warning signs.

The sheet of water all at the same level is the army of 'nameless, faceless ones', now free to share the love of Jesus without hindrance; the latter rains immediately prior to the harvest that will allow God's Kingdom to be on earth as it is in heaven. The rivers of worship and healing, and of repentance and intercession, appear to be merged in this sea of compassion and glory.
